Ven. Master Xu Yun (Hsu Yun)
Great Chan Master of the last
century. Above and below.
Hug a Tree----trees do.
Master Hsu Yun was perhaps the greatest Chan Master in modern
history. Together with Master Hsuan Hua, who received his lineage
transmission and was his most esteemed dharma heir, the authentic
dharma was brought to the West.
Hsuan Hua was the Ninth Patriarch of
the Wei-Yang Chan (Chinese Zen)
School of Buddhism and was granted
the Dharma Seal of the Wei-Yang
lineage from the elder Venerable
Master Hsu Yun.

Sri Yukteswar, the teacher of
Paramahansa Yogananda. It
was Paramahansa Yogananda's
"Auto Biography of a Yogi" that
inspired many , myself included,
on their quest to self discovery.
Although I had never met Master Hsu
Yun I felt strong karmic ties to him.
When I arrived at Gold Mountain
Monastery in 1971, although the
Master Hsuan Hua was not there at the
time, I knew he was my teacher upon
finding out he was the dharma heir to
Hsu Yun. I stayed 10 years.
